שעועית

שְׁעוּעִיתf. (שעע; cmp. שַׁעֲוָה) a species of beans, prob. kidney-bean (Phaseolus Vulgaris), v. פְּסִילְתָּא, a. חֲלוּקָה. Kil. I, 1 פול הלבן והש׳וכ׳ Y. ed. a. Ms. M. (Mish. a. Bab. ed. שעועים, corr. acc.; v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note) the white bean and the kidney-bean are not heterogeneous. Y. ib. 27a top expl. (פתילתה) פסילתא. Ib. למה שמה ש׳ שמשעשעת את הלבוכ׳ (some ed. שעשועית) why is it called shʿuʿith (pasty)? Because it pastes up (dulls) the heart, and loosens the bowels.
